Meet the party!
While the Drag’n Drop Podcast is not an actual play podcast, you may hear us talk about the three members of our party: Crash, Tess and Dummy. These three players are an important reference for the us dungeon masters as they represent ‘archetypes’ of players that would play the game. This isn’t to say that a player will be exclusively one of these three for the whole of their role playing career, in-fact a player might fluctuate between all three in a single session! So we’ve created this cast to use as a reference point to make our games fun for everyone, however they play the game.
Crash
Crash is the kind of player who likes to talk the talk as much as they like to swing the sword. A Crash likes to try and talk their way through a situation, always trying to find advantage by putting themselves forward. Oftentimes, they might ask to perform a feat which could be downright ludicrous, but they chase that Nat 20 high. A Crash player will always look for the last word, land the punchline, or deal the devastating rebuke.
Tess
Tess is your lore lord, your book keeper, your dungeon masters best friend when it comes to remembering your last session. A Tess player likes to solve puzzles, will answer any riddle, will pull on each loose thread, open every door and come up with new and interesting ways to play the game. They may have a tendency to over analyse, enter a state of decision paralysis, or perhaps find connections where there literally are none… or are there? A Tess player will make your game mastering better, because they’re engaged and eager to solve the mystery.
Dummy
Contrary to what their name might suggest, these players are by no means dummies. Sure, a Dummy will more than likely lose interest during a shopping session, get frustrated by a lack of action, or decide that the best way forward is the most direct way forward. Most of the time, a Dummy is what you need. The decisive action, the bold step forward, the care free abandon to try something for the sake of trying it and throwing caution to the wind. After all, who needs to find the missing key when you have an axe, right?
Meet the hosts!
Alex Pycroft
(he/him)
Alex has been playing D&D for the past 8 years. As both a player and a dungeon master, Alex’s main focus is to enshrine “the rule of cool” in all his plays. He brings that “here for a good time” vibe to a TPK, and the only reason why he keeps miss-casting is because he’s dyslexic and can’t spell. His class of choice is Paladin.
Rose Timperley
(she/her)
Originally not wanting to get into Dungeons and Dragons because it would “consume her whole life”, Rose’s whole life has been consumed by the game for the last 5 years. As an avid writer and creator of campaigns Rose revels in plotting out big reveals, whose payoffs leave her players gobsmacked, then dead. Her class of choice is Sorcerer.
Nick Allcroft
(he/him)
Nick has been day-dreaming about D&D every day since he first listened to Not Another D&D Podcast some 4 years ago. Now, he’s obsessed with building contraptions for his players to find, making rash decisions in the pursuit of treasure behind locked doors, and contemplating the ramifications of “f#@k around, find out” with a characters backstory. His class of choice is Bard.
